GiveWP Alternatives: What Actually Replaces It

GiveWP still works. But its founders left, StellarWP dissolved in May 2026, and the standalone GiveWP site now redirects to Liquid Web. That’s exactly what’s driving the sudden search for GiveWP alternatives. The real question nonprofits are typing into Google isn’t “is GiveWP good.” It’s “is GiveWP going anywhere.”

Let’s say you’re two weeks from a Giving Tuesday campaign and your board just asked whether the plugin your whole donation page runs on still has a company behind it. That’s not a hypothetical anymore. That’s the actual position a lot of WordPress admins are in right now.

The GiveWP alternatives worth actually checking

A general form builder that happens to take payments isn’t a WordPress donation plugin. It’s a form builder wearing a donation plugin’s clothes. So this list sticks to tools built around collecting money, not tools that can technically do it.

Each one gets the same three questions. Who it’s actually for. What you give up by choosing it. And the one feature that earns it a spot on this list.

Paymattic

Let’s say your board’s real objection to GiveWP isn’t the plugin itself, it’s the invoice. Recurring donations, one of the most basic asks a donor makes, sitting behind a separate purchase every year. Paymattic was built around closing exactly that gap.

Who it’s for. Nonprofits and small businesses that want donations and one-off payments handled by a single plugin, without paying extra just to turn on recurring giving.

The trade-off. No peer-to-peer fundraising. No text-to-give. If your campaign model leans on either, this isn’t your plugin.

The best feature. Donors get their own self-serve dashboard to view, adjust, or cancel a recurring gift without emailing your office. That’s the exact friction GiveWP’s own add-on structure creates, gone by default.

PaymentForm.io

Here’s the hosted option. PaymentForm.io isn’t a WordPress plugin, but it is built around collecting payments through purpose-specific forms, including dedicated Donation and Fundraising modules. You can run the form on a hosted page, embed it into WordPress, or connect it to your own domain.

Who it’s for. Nonprofits that want one-time and recurring donations without adding another donation plugin to WordPress, especially teams that also need fundraising campaigns, event tickets, or other payment forms.

The trade-off. No GiveWP-style donor CRM. It’s better for direct online giving than complex nonprofit campaign operations.

The best feature. PaymentForm.io charges a 0% platform transaction fee. The free plan includes unlimited forms, submissions, and transactions, while the affordable Pro plan costs $9 per month and adds built-in analytics, exports, webhooks, and other advanced tools.

Better Payment

Here’s a different starting point. Maybe your donation page was never the problem. Maybe it’s that you already have a page builder or a block-based site, and you don’t want a donation plugin that fights whichever one you’re using.

Who it’s for. Site owners on Elementor or the standard block editor who want donations, subscriptions, and fundraising campaigns without adding a separate plugin just for that.

The trade-off. Donation-specific form styles, the WooCommerce layout, and subscription forms all sit behind the paid tier. The free version handles general payment forms, not the donation-specific ones.

The best feature. A dedicated Campaign block for Gutenberg and a matching Elementor widget, both showing a live progress bar that updates on its own as donations come in, so whichever editor your site runs on, you’re not stuck redesigning the donation page from scratch.

Donations via PayPal

Not every site running a donate button is a nonprofit. Plenty are personal blogs, hobby projects, a musician’s website with a tip jar in the sidebar. GiveWP’s full campaign machinery is overkill for that, and this plugin knows it.

Who it’s for. Small sites, blogs, and personal projects that need one working donate button. Nothing more.

The trade-off. No campaign pages or recurring donations. Not even donor database. What you see is what you get.

The best feature. You can set a custom purpose and reference for every single button you place, so a donation from your homepage and a donation from your events page get labeled and tracked differently, without building two separate campaigns to do it. It holds a 4.7 out of 5 rating on wordpress.org from real installed users.

Accept Donations with PayPal & Stripe

Same idea as above, one more option. If your donors are split between PayPal loyalists and people who’d rather just enter a card number, this covers both without asking you to install a page builder first.

Who it’s for. The same simple-button crowd as above, but for sites that want Stripe sitting next to PayPal.

The trade-off. Same minimal scope, and recurring donations sit in the paid Pro version only, not the free core. Real-world rating is a bit lower too, 3.8 out of 5 on wordpress.org.

The best feature. Donors get to pick their own amount in an open field instead of only choosing from your preset tiers, and the button itself can be swapped for your own custom image to match your branding.

Donorbox

Now for the one that changes the shape of the question. Everything above lives entirely inside your WordPress install. Donorbox splits the difference, a real plugin on your site, but the fundraising engine underneath it runs on Donorbox’s own servers.

Who it’s for. Organizations that want a proven, hosted fundraising backend, but still want it living inside their WordPress site through an actual plugin, not just an embedded iframe.

The trade-off. A platform fee of 1.75 to 2.95 percent on every donation, plus standard processing costs. Every other plugin on this list charges nothing beyond the gateway itself. On a $50,000 campaign, that gap is real money.

The best feature. When a recurring charge fails, usually an expired or replaced card, Donorbox automatically retries it over the following days and emails the donor a direct link to update their payment info, instead of the gift just quietly disappearing off your books.

Which One Actually Fits Your Situation

None of the five plugins in that table are competing for the same donor. That’s the part a comparison table alone won’t show you.

Let’s say two people read this same article. One runs a small church website with maybe forty donations a year. The other runs a mid-size nonprofit chasing five figures every Giving Tuesday. Handing them the same recommendation would be a disservice to at least one of them.

If you’re the smaller site, GiveWP’s whole campaign machinery was probably always more than you needed. A plain donate button covers you, and paying attention to gateway fees matters more than donor dashboards you’ll never open.

If you’re the nonprofit with a real pipeline, the StellarWP news actually matters to your planning. You need a plugin with a track record, real recurring-giving tools, and a way to move your existing donor history without starting from zero.

And if your site already sells something else, a course, merch, event tickets, the donation question isn’t really separate from your checkout question. Worth mentioning, something like FluentCart just handles the checkout and subscription side natively, so you’re not stitching a donation plugin and a separate store plugin together for two things that are really the same job.

Switching without losing your donor history

Just be honest with your board about this part. Whichever of these GiveWP alternatives you land on, the move itself carries a real cost if it’s rushed.

None of these plugins pull GiveWP’s donation history in automatically, Paymattic’s migration tool aside. So export your donor list and donation records from GiveWP to CSV before you touch anything else. That’s your archive if something goes wrong mid-switch.

Then run the new plugin next to GiveWP for one live campaign before committing fully. Test a real donation. Confirm the receipt email sends. That way, you catch the gaps while GiveWP is still there as a fallback, not after you’ve already deactivated it.

The verdict

If you want the closest thing to GiveWP without the add-on pricing, get Paymattic. It’s the only plugin here that pairs a real migration path with recurring donations included at every paid tier.

If you’re on Elementor or just the standard block editor, Better Payment is the faster build, and there’s no real reason to add a second plugin when the one already styling your pages can take the donation too.

If all you need is a working donate button, stop reading roundups and install Donations via PayPal. Anything bigger than that is solving a problem you don’t have.

And if the real question isn’t which plugin, but whether WordPress itself is still the right home for your fundraising, Donorbox is the one option here proven enough to trust with that bigger decision.

GiveWP’s uncertainty is real. It is not, on its own, a reason to panic. Pick the tool that matches the campaign you’re actually running, not the one with the loudest migration guide, and the search for GiveWP alternatives stops feeling so urgent.
